What animal name means River Horse?

​When ancient Greeks (古代ギリシャ人) visited Africa for the first time (初めて) they saw a large animal, they called it a hippopotamus (カバ)(hippo for short). Hippopotamus is made of the Greek words hippos, (horse馬) and potamos (river河).
Adult (完全な成長) hippos average (平均) 1,500 kg for males (男性) and 1,300 kg for females (女性). Even though they are heavy with short legs, a hippo can run (走る) 30 km/h.
Hippos are aggressive (侵略的な) animals, and in Africa they kill about 3000 people a year! (毎年)
